Results of the tournament season 2009
German Impressioning Contest - Mai 2009 in Hamburg, D
On the competitors' decision the contest took place on the Hamburg workshop at the "Kulturhaus Hamburg Eppendorf" on 3/05/2009.
In the sector Impressioning Technique [the filing of keys] again, we chose a identically pinned standard ABUS C83. Out 36 competitors, 11 opened successfully. Champion Barry wasn't able to defend his last year's 05:13 (min:sec) record. Champion Oliver Diederichsen from Hamburg was the first to open in the new record time of 04:23 (min:sec) and became once more German Champon in Impressioning. We compliment him on this outstanding achievement.
The winners were rewarded with security fittings by the sponsor Drumm Sicherheitstechnik,
Champion Barry handed the challenge trophy (an ABUS watch) over to Champion Oli.
Results of the 2nd Swiss Championship 2009 in Littau on 06/06/2009
There were 11 contestants from Switzerland and Germany at the 2nd Swiss Championship on 6/6/09 trying to pick standard Euro-profile cylinders with their pick sets. Last year, most of the German athletes dropped out on the proprietory opening, this time only the Swiss did. Thus, the actual contest was carried out by only 6 athletes.
The winners were granted certificates of victory and locks.

In Las Vegas, at the DEFCONTOOOL.US hosted once more the American Lock Picking Championship which took place in early August 2009. So far, there weren't any German athletes taking part in US contests.
Since neither Chris nor Tokey managed to open in the finals, they were both granted third place.

The annually international meeting LockCon (hosted by TOOOL.NL) took this time place at the dutch hacker camp HAR2009 from 13/08/ to 16/08/2009 and was once more well visited. Besides many interesting presentations there were also three contests held there.
Lock Picking Contest About 36 international athletes (NL, UK, F & D) took part in the Lock Picking Contest (the opening of cylinder locks only by pick set). With roughly 11 contestants the SSDeV provided the majority of the most renowned international athletes. Even before the final, it was clear that the winner would be German. As last year, none of the international competitors could qualify for the finals!
Julian will be provided with a free flight and lodging in Turkey at the 1. European Lock Picking Championship.

Impressioning Contest At Impressioning Technique there were 24 international athletes competing to file a matching key for a identically pinned standard ABUS C83. Jos Weyers became the first to open in the incredible time of 1:27mins. That is world record and almost unbeatable in the future. Congratulations! Furthermore, the opening times have dropped sharply compared to the pentecostal contest in Hamburg.
See further information on Blackbag. Jos will also be provided with a free flight and lodging in Turkey at the 1. European Lock Picking Championship.
Here is a video of the Impressioning Contest 2008 - 16mins in WMV (330MB).
Safe Combination Lock Manipulation Contest This is about the non-destructive opening of a vault combination lock. You can feel and read out the combination by the acoustical and palpable feedback of the lock. Last year no-one managed it, this year 2 athletes turned the lock open.
Since Julian already had a free flight, Michael received a free flight and lodging for the 1. European Lock Picking Championship in Turkey.
Since 1997 the "Sportsfreunde der Sperrtechnik - Deutschland e.V." host their annual German Lock Picking Championship under increasingly international participation. This year the Championship was held in the "Naturfreundehaus" Cologne, Kapellenstr. 9 A on the 31/10/ and the 01/11/09.
Manual Opening Contest
In the showcase domain Manual Opening [Opening exclusively via hand picking] skilled athletes competed with their own (mostly) high quality cylinders. Though, there were 29 contestants, two failed to unlock their own competition-cylinder. Thus, 27 contestants took part in the preliminary. They were arranged into 3 groups of 9 athletes. The best four of each group qualified for the final and the subsequent four for the B-final. Both, the preliminary and the final lasted over two hours each!
Have a look at this YouTube Video of Manual Opening for further information.
The winners of the finals received high class prizes (i.e. an electrical pick set and S&G combination locks) by the sponsor WENDT Sicherheits & Aufsperrtechnik.
Since Champion Julian had already won 3 tickets, Vice-Champion Gerhard will be provided with a free flight and lodging in Turkey at the 1. European Lock Picking Championship.
Padlock Opening Contest
In Padlock Opening [Opening of brandnew factory packaged padlocks exclusively via hand picking] there were 27 contestants arranged into three groups of nine athletes. The best four of each group qualified for the final and the subsequent four for the B-final. The steadiest three athletes were eliminated after the preliminary. The finals were carried out with 12 athletes and 12 different padlocks. Each group received identical brandnew locks by lot. You score for each opened padlock. If there is a tie on the opened padlocks, the total opening time will be decisive. The one opening most padlocks will win according to experience.
The winners of the finals received high class prizes by the sponsor SGH - Aufsperrtechnik Schmitz.
Freestyle Contest
In the field of Freestyle [all tools allowed as long as the lock doesn't get damaged] we used brandnew factory packaged Euro-profile cylinders. Again, there were 27 contestants competing in 3 groups of 9 athletes. Since we also used high quality Euro-cylinders, it didn't surprise us that some locks remained locked. Theras simple models were slaughtered in seconds by many athletes. We were especially pleased about the high standings of some "non-members". It doesn't happen to often that athletes make it up straight to the main final on their first championship. For the first time ever, a "non-member" even managed to grab the crown. Our congratulations!
The winners of the finals received high class prizes by the sponsor Sicher Haus Sylt.
Blitz-Opening
In Blitz-Opening [Opening of locks in max. 1 minute] there were about 34 athletes competing in one big round. Each athlete had a minute's time to open the lock of the opponent. If you fail, you drop out. After five turns, there were only four athletes left. These were again drawn by lot for the last round there only 2 athletes managed to open the locks.
The two champions received high class SouthOrd pick sets by the sponsor Multipick Service.
Award for Fairness & Sportsmanship
Every year an athlete is awarded for outstanding fairness and sportsmanship. Roland Bunjes from Berlin was picked by the other contestants this year. He explained his cylinder to others in the Manual Opening Contest. In exchange for that Roland received a HPC-Dental-Pick Set sponsored and delivered by HPC Director David Reinhard.
The following competitions have already been listed for 2010:
