The Lockpicking Team of the 10 th German Championship

Since 1997 the "Sportsfreunde der Sperrtechnik - Deutschland e.V." carry out their yearly German Championship of lockpicking - with increasing international participation. Visitors have got the opportunity to take a look while the lock-experts open high-value locks.

On account of the 70 th jubilee of the
"Schloss- und Beschlägemuseum" (museum of locks and fittings)
in Velbert

Because of the poor soil around Velbert, which was good for just quite low a rural income, people took to the more gainful business with the fear of goods and chattels. Velbert has still today got the reputation to be the town of locking- and security-techniques.

So it is not too astonishing that in 1936 the "Schloss- und Beschlägemuseum" has been founded by the responsible ministery. Right for the 70. jubilee the exhibition of accomplished handicraft from the last 4000 years has been newly arranged.

The "Forum Niederberg" in the house of the museum of Locks and Fittings gave a perfect surrounding for the championship

Competion Mechanical Opening

In the main competion "Mechanical Opening" (i.e. opening just using the lockpicking set of tools) experienced competitors with mainly sophisticated cylinder locks. The detailed list of locks of the 1999 championship shows regular locks used in the competion together with their opening times - which hopefully illustrates the term "security lock" gives just an illusion. From the pre-finals out of three groups nine competitors got qualified for the final.

In the competion "Opening of Padlocks" (opening of different-sized padlocks with the lockpicking set of tools) nine competitors out of three groups got qualified for the final.

Competion Freestyle

In the competion "Freestyle" (any tools are allowed which do not damage the lock) a lot of competiors started with locks not prone to being opened with electric devices. From the pre-finals out of 2 groups 10 competitors qualified for the final.

Sponsor of the competion "Blitz-Opening" In the competion Blitz-Opening (opening locks within one minute) about 35 competitors started. After four rounds just 4 competitors remained, and after the 5 th round just one:

In the competion "Impressioning" (filing of keys) again five-pin locks ABUS C83 (massive pins) were used. The competion had been carried out already at the autumn-training-camp (03.09.2006) at the Naturfreundehaus Köln-Kalk).

Organisation of the DUTCH OPEN

At Nov. 11. 2006 participated 50 competitors from the netherlands, germany, france, great britain and the usa at the DUTCH OPEN, which took place the 4th time in Sneek (NL). Again the german lockpickers proofed their abilities.
